Why has my mortgage lender asked me to get Independent Legal Advice?
Lenders ask for Independent Legal Advice when someone involved in a transaction is taking on an obligation without getting the obvious benefit. A guarantor, an occupier, a joint borrower who won't own the property.
The lender wants to know that person had their own solicitor, understood the document and signed freely. That protects the borrower as much as it protects the lender.
It isn't a sign that something is wrong with your transaction. It's a normal part of a lot of property lending.
If you've been asked, send us what the lender gave you. We'll confirm what's required.
